"As a Watauga County native, I am largely inspired by my rural environment and the tradition and history of the Appalachian Mountains. Painting landscapes in oils, I work primarily out-of-doors, preferring to directly observe nature rather than creating in the studio.
My work is stylistically informed by many artists throughout history, but primarily the American Tonalists and the French Barbizon painters. Color, texture, and brushstroke are used advantageously in my paintings to suggest moods and emotions that transcend an exact imitation of nature." - Branch Richter
