Woodrow Wilson Long or Woodie was born in 1942 in Plant City, Florida. Known as a "memory painter" Long paints his memories on paper or board. As a professional contract painter Long knew how to paint and took to it in 1988 after suffering from a lung illness from breathing in oil paint for so many years. Woodie painted mostly by laying down the foreground, people picking cotton, or flying kites. He would then paint in the background, typically a solid shade of color. He would rarely go back to touch things up. Long retired to southern Alabama with his wife Dot and family.
